Localized Water Service Disruption - Rivergate - Dec 12

Dec 05, 2023

UPDATE Dec 22, 10:00 AM

Water pressure has now been increased to the Rivergate community. Residents may temporarily experience cloudy water, as trapped air and sediments pass through the system. This is harmless, and water remains safe to drink.

Running taps in your home will help clear this water from the system and your household plumbing.

UPDATE Dec 20, 3:00 PM

Regretfully, the pressure increase for Rivergate will not occur today as planned. A component of the new chamber did not pass the commissioning test. The component is essential to the proper operation of the pressure reducing chamber and will need to be replaced. An update will be posted as soon as information on the replacement is known.

UPDATE Dec 19, 5:00 PM: Boil Water Advisory Lifted

The Boil Water Advisory for the Rivergate community has been lifted. Testing has confirmed water remains safe to drink and use as normal.

Additionally, we can confirm the neighbourhood will be moved to the higher pressure zone on Wednesday Dec 20.

Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to maintain and improve your utility services.

UPDATE Dec 15, 10:00 AM

Regretfully, the Boil Water Advisory for Rivergate Units 101-132 will remain in place over the weekend. Additionally, the water pressure increase will not take place on Monday Dec 18 as planned. We will update the status of the Advisory and pressure increase on Tuesday, December 19th. Thank you for your patience.

UPDATE Dec 11: Outage Revised Date - Tuesday, Dec 12

This is the revised schedule for the outage and connection to the higher pressure main.

Tuesday December 12

  • Units 119-126 will be without water from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Units 101-118 & 127-132 will have water during this time. The reason why only some units are affected is based on the location of isolation valves within the Rivergate community.
  • After the outage above, Units 101-132 will be on a Boil Water Advisory for approximately 60 hours. Please check this website for removal of Advisory.
  • There will be no increase in pressure until Dec 18. We will not be able to connect Rivergate to the higher pressure until the lab results come back. This is estimated to be Dec 18.

Monday December 18

  • Assuming all results come back clean, and the advisory is removed, we will close the valve at the Sagewood Booster feed (west side of the community) and open the valve to the higher-pressure zone (east side of the community). No Boil Water Advisory will be required as all water will have been tested in advance.

UPDATE Dec 08: Outage Postponed

Due to unforeseen difficulties in connecting the new valve chamber to the main below The Pointe, the tie-in date has been postponed. There will be no water disruption on Monday, December 11th. We will notify you of the new schedule shortly.

We apologize for the changing timelines. We recognize that the low water pressure remains an ongoing nuisance.

On Monday, December 11th, work will be carried out to connect the Rivergate neighbourhood to a new, higher pressure watermain. This enhancement will improve potable water service to your property.

To connect your water system to the higher pressure main, Corix will need to conduct a sequence of valve closures and openings. This will result in some temporary inconvenience to residents, as detailed below.

Rivergate Units 101-129

  • There will be no interruption to your water service and no Boil Water Advisory.
  • After this work, you’ll notice increased water pressure, and may experience some water discolouration. Flushing your plumbing for a few minutes should resolve this.

Rivergate Units 130-132

  • Water will be shut off Monday, December 11th, from 8 AM to 4 PM.
  • After this work, these units will be placed under a Precautionary Boil Water Advisory. We’ll notify residents when laboratory testing confirms water is safe to drink.
  • You’ll notice increased water pressure and may experience some water discolouration. Flushing your plumbing for a few minutes should resolve this.

Precautions During a Boil Water Advisory

During a Boil Water Advisory, tap water used for the following purposes should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute prior to use.

  • Drinking and ice cubes
  • Liquids or food (e.g. tea or soup) that will not be boiled for at least one (1) minute
  • Washing fruits and vegetables being eaten raw
  • Brushing teeth or cleaning dental and medical appliances
  • Preparing baby food and infant formula
  • Bathing infants

Adults, adolescents, and older children may shower, bathe, or wash using tap water, but should avoid swallowing water. It’s recommended to sponge bathe infants if using tap water. Tap water may be used for dishes washed by machine but add bleach to water used for dishes washed by hand. Water used for other household purposes does not need to be boiled.

This Advisory will be rescinded once the water has been demonstrated safe to drink. Please check this News & Notices page for updates. Should you have questions, please contact Corix Customer Care.
